Shanghai Expo performances for young reveal menu

Programs of a variety of performances organized for children and students visiting the upcoming Shanghai World Expo in the city were unveiled on Apirl 17th. These performances will be staged during the Shanghai Expo period from May 1 to October 31 at a “dock theater,” Houtan Square and Bolan Square at the Expo site.
One of the shows is Sesame Street’s “Magic Map Show” at the “dock theater,” which is reconstructed from a dock. The show will be staged at a sunken square with children audiences sitting on soft floors instead of hard seats around the slopes. Set against a backdrop of the Expo scenes, the show will be performed twice a day, 40 minutes each.
Puppet show “Journey to West,” an adaptation of Chinese classic novel of the same title, will feature the legendary Monkey King fighting evils. Another puppet show “Romance of Three Kingdoms,” also based on an eponymous Chinese classic novel, will tell the story of many well-known historical characters. Puppet shows will also be staged at the “dock theater.”
Used to be the third dock at Jiangnan Square in Puxi area of the Expo site, Abilia experience center is located next to a ferry wharf by the Huangpu River. It offers 25 simulated career experiences for youngsters from seven to 15, giving them a glimpse of the working life and helping them conceive their career dreams and expectations. It is expected to receive 2 million visitors.
Bolan Square will stage three performances a day, mainly organized by Expo participants and the Expo organizer. The square covers an area of 25,000 square meters, with overhead membrane shades to protect audiences from the sun and rain. It can accommodate 3,000 seated audiences and 10,000 standing.
Another performance called “We Are the World” with high-tech interactive experience will be offered at Houtan Square and it will show relationships and communications of three families each in Shanghai, Milan and Beijing. The performance will showcase 3D identification technologies, smart grids that wisely use electricity under computer control, 3D distance communication technologies, distance healthcare systems, and low carbon kitchens.
In addition, a global program will invite young people from across the world to present their innovation projects at an innovation center at Houtan Square. Designed by Young Men’s Christian Association in Hanover, the program will further support Chinese innovation with a data center and innovation clubs for the young people.
