Silk

The Suzhou Silk Festival, held every September, celebrates the resourceful Chinese industry of sericulture(the production of silk from silkworms) Discovered around 2640 BC, the Chinese managed to keep the secrets of silk production under wraps for almost three millennia, until AD 550, when two Nestorian monks smuggled two silkworms in bamboo staves out of China to Constantinople.
