Shanghai Shopping

Shopping mall on Huahai Rd--Hongkong Plaza....

Shanghai’s most famous shopping street, East Nanjing Rd is served by toy trains that ferry shoppers laden with goods and tourists along its pedestrianised length. For souvenirs and knick-knacks, head to the Old Town, and take in Huaihai Rd in the French Concession for your smart shopping needs. Supersize malls favour Pudong, but the best malls and department stores can be found in Xujiahui, Huahai Rd and Nanjing Rd. For shoes, shop at Shaanxi Rd, for books browse along Fuzhou Rd and for musical instruments, try Fenyang Rd and East Jingling Rd. Most shops are open daily from 10am to 9pm, though government-run stores often close at 6pm. Shopping malls and department stores are generally open till 10pm, especially on the weekends. Large tourist shops can generally arrange packing add postage. Payment for items in large stores can be old-fashioned; after you select a purchase, the sales assistant will give you a ticket which you take to the till. After paying, you then retrace your steps to pick up your goods.
