Highlights:
The giant bell in the temple, with a history of more than 500 years, was cast inthe Yongle reign period of Ming Dynasty. The bell is 6.94 meters high and weighs 46.5tongs. The inner and outer sides of the bell are inscribed with the Buddhist sutras, containing more than 227,000 characters. It is praised as the king of the bells in China. In addition, the temple houses some 100 bells of different shapes from the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, so the temple is named a museum of ancient bells in China.

Brief Introduction
The temple is situated on the north side of the northern section of the Third Ring Road. The Big Bell Temple (Dazhong Si) in Beijing was built in 1733 during the reign of Emperor Yongzheng of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). The temple was named after the famous Yongle Big Bell housed in the temple, which was cast during the reign of Emperor Yongle (1403-1424) of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).

The Yongle Big Bell weighs about 46 tons, with a height of 5.5 meters and a diameter of 3.3 meters. The bell is famous not only because of its size, but probably more importantly because of the over 230,000 characters of Buddhist scriptures engraved on it. The photos were taken on July 13, 2003. The famous bell hangs in the Bell Tower at eh rear of the compound. The tower is 16.7 meters high, with a square base, a circular upper structure and windows on four sides. It is said that Yao Guangxiao cast the bronze bell during the Yongle period (1403-1424) of the Ming Dynasty. The bell is 6.87 meters high, 3.3 meters in diameter, 0.22 meter thick and weighs 46.5 tons. Known as the "Huayan Bell."
